Time Period

Fall semester, 2003—two years before Hurricane Katrina will devastate New Orleans. The city is alive but tired: post-9/11 anxieties, budget cuts in public schools, a sense that something big is coming. No smartphones—students use Nokia brick phones, disposable cameras, and burned CDs. The internet exists (AIM, early MySpace, forums), but no one’s constantly online. Teachers and administrators are more likely to look the other way or bury problems to avoid scandal. Mood: A place stuck between centuries: old folklore still clings to life, but modernity is creeping in. Everyone knows the levees are in bad shape—just not how bad. The city feels haunted in more ways than one.

Cypress Grove High School

Cypress Grove High School Cypress Grove High is a sprawling, timeworn school in the Garden District of New Orleans. The building itself is a patchwork of old and new: The original redbrick main hall dates back to the early 1900s, its architecture somewhere between elegant and oppressive . Over the decades, additional wings and portable classrooms were grafted on to handle overcrowding, giving the place a maze-like layout nobody fully understands. The ceilings in some corridors are stained from ancient leaks. The old gym has been condemned “pending renovations” for as long as anyone can remember, its doors chained shut and the windows blacked out. Faded murals in the cafeteria depict idealized, smiling students that no one recognizes anymore. During daylight, Cypress Grove looks like any other underfunded public high school: Lockers jammed with textbooks and half-finished art projects. Posters peeling off the walls—school spirit campaigns, anti-drug PSAs,...

For those interested in playing Hallowed

Image
Hallowed is a modern take on urban fantasy. Its tone is grim, dark, and occasionally tongue-in-cheek. Players will help shape the world through their characters’ backgrounds and ideas, making the setting truly collaborative. Most of the creatures’ abilities in the game are drawn directly from real-world folklore rather than recycled pop culture tropes, lending the supernatural a fresh and unsettling authenticity. When it comes to where you play, the sky’s the limit. Hallowed works in nearly any modern setting, whether you prefer the flickering neon of a decaying metropolis or the quiet menace of an isolated town. Here are a few ideas to inspire your campaign: New York City — The city that never sleeps is teeming with hidden cults, cursed relics, and old spirits haunting the cracks between skyscrapers. Los Angeles — Beneath the glamour lies a network of occult power brokers, abandoned film sets crawling with revenants, and ancient forces vying for influence. New Orleans — A city steeped...

The Order of Dracul

Image
The Order of Dracul “His body may be dust—but his dominion endures.” Overview The Order of Dracul is an ancient, secretive coven composed solely of vampires directly sired (or descended in bloodline) from Count Vlad Dracula Tepes . Though Dracula himself was famously destroyed in 1893—dust scattered to the Carpathian winds—his progeny survived, adapting their master’s philosophy into a cult of influence, occultism, and vengeance. Where other vampire clans thrive on chaos or excess, the Order of Dracul is a patient, organized force, viewing themselves as the rightful aristocracy of the undead. They are scholars of the supernatural, manipulators of human institutions, and zealots in preserving their bloodline’s supremacy.  Origin & History 15th Century: Dracula’s transformation into the first of his lineage. A handful of trusted lieutenants—his “Blood Council”—share in the first generation of the curse. 16th–19th Centuries: The Order’s roots spread th...

The Red Hood Society

Image
The Red Hood Society “Let no beast stalk beneath the moon unchallenged.” Origins & Myth The Red Hood Society traces its roots to medieval France , born from the grim legend of the Beast of Gévaudan —a monstrous lupine terror that devoured dozens in the 1760s. According to Society records, a cabal of aristocrats and royal hunters, led by a woman known only as La Chaperonne Rouge  (“The Red Hood”), swore a blood oath to eradicate every trace of the “Moonborne” from Europe. Over centuries, they evolved from superstitious noble militia into a clandestine, highly-organized paramilitary guild  of werewolf hunters, now operating across Europe, the Americas, and select outposts elsewhere. Unlike the Vatican Knights—who see lycanthropy as a tragic curse—the Red Hood Society regards it as a heritable blight and existential threat.  Their approach is eradication , not redemption. Philosophy & Doctrine Core Beliefs: Lycanthropy is an ancient scourge predating civilizat...

The Vatican Knights

Image
The Vatican Knights “Fiat Lux in Tenebris”—Let there be light in the darkness. Origins & History The Vatican Knights were established during the First Crusade (1096–1099)  by a faction of militant Templar-aligned clergy and exorcists who believed the Holy Land harbored not only infidels but also literal demons and undead horrors . These crusaders encountered creatures in Jerusalem’s catacombs they believed were drawn to war and bloodshed—vampires and other fiends. Over centuries, the Vatican Knights evolved into a black-ops division of the Church , operating outside canonical law, their existence officially denied by the Vatican hierarchy but funded discreetly through “special budgets.” While their earliest focus was rooting out demonic cults in Europe, by the 18th century the Knights had expanded globally, establishing clandestine priories and safehouses on every continent . Mission The Vatican Knights exist to: Identify, study, and exterminate supernatural threats. Pro...
